Purpose: Ensuring conservation and rational use of natural resources serving as an environmental watchdog; undertaking environmental education; promoting voluntary action for environmental protection; empowering women.
Illustrative Project: Between 2000 and 2002, GEO implemented a biodiversity conservation project in the Brong Ahafo region. The project was aimed at biodiversity conservation and poverty reduction. The result of the project could be seen in many areas. The annual rituals of bushfires that destroyed the forest and animals was reduced, illegal lumbering was also reduced drastically as Chiefs stood up in protection of forest resources. Farmers embraced the modern farming practices that ensured higher productivity leading to reduction in poverty level.
