Purpose: ACIJLP is a non-governmental institution and works to reinforce and support the status of justice in the Arab region, independence of judiciary, legal profession and respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms. ACIJLP is in consultatative status with the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and is Coordinator of the Arab Coalition for International Criminal Court (ICC).
Illustrative Project: ACIJLP launched a campaign for women judges. The center held a workshop on "Women Judge: Point and Counterpoint" for 55 participants and where 8 research papers were presented. ACIJLP published a book including the research papers from the workshop. It also issued many statements to concerned bodies to create public opinion towards women as judges. An outcome of the campaign was a decree issued by the President of Egypt in January 2003 nominating Ms. Tahani El-Gebaly as a judge in the high constitutional court.
