Office of the Special Adviser on Africa

Purpose: ACEDIN was founded to promote healthy, safe, equitable and sustainable cities, towns and villages in the sub-Saharan African region. ACEDIN is especially interested in audio-visual documentation of environmental issues and best practices in human development. It also intervenes in community improvement and poverty alleviation especially in slum settlements.
Illustrative Project: Kara - A community sustainable development: In 1995 a huge portion of Kara was engulfed in an inferno that destroyed both human and material resources worth several hundreds of thousands of Naira. ACEDIN intervened providing advocacy for the Kara Community Development Association when it was faced with eviction threats by the Nigerian Railway Corporation (Landowners). ACEDIN laid out the entire site providing minimum planning standards to enhance hitherto lacking accessibility, ventilation and visibility. It also encouraged the usage of local and cheap building materials. An audio-visual documentary of the community development process was made for enlightenment and replicability of the gains in other slum communities.
