Purpose: |
The 1985 United Nations Women's Forum was the birthplace of a partnership between Wanjiku Kironyo (Kenya Social Psychologist) and Rosalind Van Vliet (Canadian Teacher). The initial vision of assisting the street children in Nairobi widened to include projects involving hundreds of people in several countries. (1) Community Awareness Programs: women's self-help cooperatives, camps for street children, emergency shelter, training centre, community health education. (2) Education Programs: Voices from the Shadows, Sadness of the Tribes, Just one Voice, Ethnical Tourism. (3) Individual Assistance Programs: Crisis counselling, Awareness workshops, Employment training. (4) Street Children receive food and shelter, crisis counselling, education programs and health assistance. Each month a weekend life-skill camp is held, offering street kids aged 5 to 21 a special place to meet, discuss, plan, learn and play together. |
