Office of the Special Adviser on Africa

Purpose: To fight corruption, establish transparency, accountability and good governance.
Illustrative Project: On 6th January 1997 we organized the first national day against corruption by networking with 19 NGOs (human rights, women, youth, sustainable development, professional associations, civic education, political clubs, etc.); we held conferences, meetings, printed cards, posters, etc. In 1998, the second national day was organized with 26 NGOs. We intend to do it yearly. The International Anti-Corruption Conference in Lima (September 1997) adopted our proposal to call on the United Nations to design an international day. We are also trying to build islands of integrity with several institutions (a hospital and a local government 'commune').
