Purpose: | MISA is a dynamic member-driven network of national chapters coordinated by a professional legal secretariat which seeks through monitoring, training, capacity building, research and distribution of information, to foster free, independent and diverse media throughout Southern Africa, in service of democracy and development as stated in the Windhoek Declaration. |
Illustrative Project: | MISA monitors media freedom violations in 11 countries and reports these internationally (continuous project). International protests have resulted in journalists being released from prison, receiving emergency medical treatment, and preventing further harassment. |
