Commission on Sustainable Development:
The Issues of Sustainable Development they are several however we would highlight the areas where we have been involved in reference to our mission and what we do as hereinafter appearing: - Under Social and Economic Sustainable Development, our area of concern has been poverty reduction among the poor families particularly neediest widows with children. Why assisting neediest migrant widows with children ? Among the many widows in Tanzania, we select the neediest widows who have children who depend on them. As most of the tribes in African culture and customs, have not been favoring women especially when it comes to the issue of death of their husbands or a case of divorce. Women in most cases have been left with nothing as the properties if any, have been counted as belong to the husband and in case of death of the husband, relatives of the husband have been taking all properties with the claim that they are properties of the husband who is their relative. In this case a widow with the children are left to the extreme difficulties, poverty, harassment and sometimes tortures from within the family members of the husband as reported by some widows interviewed. So widows with children are taken as a special group in the society which needs the attention while they exercise their struggle in living in a fair ground If widows are left without any assistance, their mode of struggle will affect not only their welfare but also the whole community wellbeing. The results will definitely hinder or slow down social and economic development of the whole society because widows posses a lot of children and both widows and their children if may be tempted to act irrationally, this may endanger not only their life but of others in the community as well. For instance, in case of rough business such as sexuality, burglary – common with children, loitering and street begging the results will be extra spreading of diseases such as HIV, disturbance of peace and the increase of the number of street children in towns. Assisting widows who have children, apart from reducing the heavy burden left to the widows in taking care of their children, this also reduces the increase of the number of street children in our towns where in most cases the number have been added by children from widows families among other sources. Therefore these are the ones we aim to help. “Priority actions of the United Nations system in reference to Chapter II of the Johannesburg Plan of Implementation are: 1. improving access to sustainable livelihoods, entrepreneurial opportunities and productive resources; 2. providing universal access to basic social services; 3. progressively developing social protection systems to support those who cannot support themselves; 4. empowering people living in poverty and their organizations; 5. addressing the disproportionate impact of poverty on women; 6. working with interested donors and recipients to allocate increased shares of ODA to poverty eradication; and 7. intensifying international cooperation for poverty eradication.” Global Child Care Tanzania has specialized working on poverty reduction among neediest widows with children as the most and highly affected easily with the effects of poverty among other groups. Therefore we have continued working on implementing United Nations plans as quoted herein above but mainly targeting widows with children as may be referred to our web page http://globalchildctz.wozaonline.co.za
