Advancement of Women

Affiliation with other organizations: The Legal Resources Centre nationally works in partnerships with the following other organisations: POWA (People Oppose to Women Abuse) – a civil society organisation advocating against gender based violence and which provides psych-social support to women who have been abused. Sikhula Sonke – a trade union representing women farm workers in South Africa. Operation Bobbie Bear – a civil society organisation that works with children who have been victims of sexual abuse. SWEAT (Sex Worker Education and Advocacy Taskforce) – a civil society organisation advocating for the recognition of the rights of sex workers and decriminalization of sex work. The Centre for Justice and Crime Prevention – a civil society organisation that advocates for the rights of children to be free from violence. The Wellness Foundation – a civil society organisation working to advocate for the recognition of community care workers. The Parent Centre – civil society organisation that provides maternal health care to impoverished women and who advocate for the provision of maternal health care. Sisonke – a civil society organisation by sex workers for sex workers. MOSAIC – a civil society organisation advocating against gender based violence and in who provides counselling and support services to women. Women’s Legal Centre – a law centre dedicated to impact litigation. PASSOP – a civil society organisation working for the realization of human rights for refugees and asylum seekers. GenderLinks – a civil society organisation geared towards advancing women. Tswaranang Legal Advice Centre – a civil society organisation providing legal support and advice. Treatment Action Campaign – a civil society organisation advocating for the right to health. Equal Education – a civil society organisation advocating for the right to education. The Legal Resources Centre is part of the following networks: The Working Group on Decriminalization of Sex Work; The Shukhumisa Campaign (geared towards the proper implementation of Sexual Offences legislation); The Commission for Gender Equality Monitor (network of CSO’s monitoring the performance of the Commission for Gender Equality); Southern African Legal Assistance Network (network of legal organisations in Southern Africa). The Legal Resources Centre is part of the following intergovernmental organisation structures: The Working Group on Domestic Violence for the Civilian Secretariat of Police; The Gender Justice Forum of the Western Cape. The Legal Resources Centre provides legal support and work with the following research units: The Gender, Health and Justice Unit at the University of the Western Cape; The Democratic Governance and Research Unit at the University of Cape Town.
