We have been closely following the CEDAW review of Canada with respect to Aboriginal Women, through our affiliation with FAFIA. Canada has committed a “grave violation” of the rights of Aboriginal women by failing to promptly and thoroughly investigate the high levels of violence they suffer, including disappearances and murders. See more: http://www.fafia-afai.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/CEDAW_C_OP-8_CAN_1_7643_E.pdf. IIWR-Manitoba is part of the community group Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls (MMIWG), and are working closely with the aboriginal women's community. 2 of our board members are aboriginal. |
