Purpose of the organization: To promote the protection, well-being and dignity of forced migrants and their hosts. To empower forced migrants, communities and all associated actors to challenge and combat injustices in policy, law and practice. To influence national and international debate on matters of forced migration, justice and peace in Uganda. To be a resource for forced migrants and relevant actors.
Activities relevant to the conference of States Parties to the convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities: The Refugee Law Project through its five thematic programmes namely Access to justice, gender and sexuality, Mental health and Psychosocial well-being, Media for Social Change and Conflict, Transitional Justice and Governance conducts research on issues regarding refugees living with Disabilities. The Access to justice program is currently advocating for reform in the Mental Treatment Act 1938 which has provisions that are contrary to the Convention for Persons with Disability. RLP also collaborates with local DPOs such as the National Union of Persons with Disabilities in Uganda and National Union of Women with Disabilities in Uganda to provide capacity building to refugees with disabilities

Description of the membership of the organization, indicating the total number of members: RLP is headed by the Director, who together with the Programme Managers, the Head of Operations and Programme Support and the Human Resources Manager make up the Management team. The Principal of the School of Law provides technical oversight to the organisation. RLP has 75 staff from diverse professional and educational backgrounds including lawyers, social workers, finance officers and refugee community interpreters drawn from the refugee communities.
