BCCIC attained UNFCCC Observer Status in 2015 and attended COP 21 in Paris. BCCIC's position at UNFCCC was the belief that the impacts of climate change can be better managed and emerging opportunities can be better used when government and civil society join efforts to achieve economic prosperity, social justice, and environmental sustainability. BCCIC's participation in the UNFCCC dialogue has strengthened development programming among the Canadian CSO community as well as Canada’s effectiveness internationally in its development approach, as made clear in our advisory role in Global Affairs Canada's current international development policy consultation process. |

BCCIC works with Global Affairs Canada to align their international development policy with the comprehensive goals set out in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. It is important to note that while we work with and receive funding from Global Affairs Canada, BCCIC's agenda, outreach, program and activities outcomes align solely with its own priorites and are not influenced by government input. BCCIC is a member of the Inter-Council Network, a coalition of the eight Provincial and Regional Councils for International Cooperation. These member-based Councils are committed to global social justice, and represent over 400 diverse civil society organizations from across Canada. The ICN provides a national forum in which the Councils collaborate for improved effectiveness and identify common priorities for collective action. The National Coordinator for the ICN is housed in BCCIC offices, giving us a unique and advantageous opportunity to maximize our role in national and international proceedings. BCCIC is a also a member of the Canadian Council for International Cooperation (CCIC) and currently sits on its Board of Directors. The CCIC is a coalition of Canadian voluntary sector organizations working globally to achieve sustainable human development. CCIC seeks to end global poverty, and to promote social justice and human dignity for all. CCIC holds Consultative Status to ECOSOC, but we believe we would better serve the needs and interests of our BC-based members with our own Consultative Status. |
