Social Development

Purpose of the organization: Among other things, CAAF seeks to Influence policies in favor of older people. Empower older people to demand their rights and entitlements 1. Build the capacity of older people for advocacy and advocate for policies in their favour. 2. Increase awareness of the populace on the concerns of older people in Ghana 3. Sensitize the older people on disease prevention and control especially non communicable disease. 4. Promote access of older persons to social protection strategies of government in Ghana. 5. Change negative attitudes and misconceptions about aging. 6. Build a network of stakeholders for the advancement of the welfare of older people.
Activities relevant to the conference of States Parties to the convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities: The core values of Compassion Africa Aged Foundation are empowerment and participation and in this regard, CAAF has trained over 300 older people (60 years and above) who serve as monitors and paralegals, participating in their own development. Currently, CAAF is running an Older Citizens Monitoring Project which monitors the health, pension and livelihood situation of older people in the Ashanti Region using specially designed tools for data collection. This data is used as evidence for advocacy purposes aimed at promoting and protecting the rights of older people to demand their own entitlements. The data is also used for advocacy especially for policies for older people. The Woso Benyin (You also grow) Project also uses the media as a platform to put ageing issues onto the public domain for discussions and sensitize the populace on the needs of older people as well as eliminate all forms of right violation and discrimination against older people. The overall goal of the Malaria Prevention and Control project is to contribute towards the reduction in the incidence of malaria among the populace in the catchment of the project especially pregnant women and children who are less 5 years. This project uses focus group discussions and other sensitization strategies to drum home best practices for the prevention of malaria and its management. The Child Survival and Adolescent Reproductive Health project seeks to a. Increase exclusive breastfeeding for children less than 6 months. b. Reduce infant and maternal mortality The project also mobilizes mothers to patronize child welfare clinics and train grandmothers as Traditional Birth Attendants. The seedling project assist farmers to nurse cocoa seedlings with a rotating fund as a group. this empowers them economically Other Health Exercises include 1. Voluntary Counseling and Testing of HIV 2. Eye Screening 3. Check for blood pressure
