Social Development

Affiliation with other organizations: We are affiliated with 37 universities and research institutes across Canada. We are also affiliated with 220 industry, community, and government partners.
Purpose of the organization: We are funded by the Canadian government to have social impact in the area of aging. We are supporting research, development, commercialization, and knowledge mobilization in the area of technology and aging in order to ensure that older adults can remain in their own homes and communities, and continue to have social connectedness.
Activities relevant to the conference of States Parties to the convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities: We focus on developing new technological solutions to support older adults who may have a variety of disabilities. For example, we fund several projects related to technology and cognitive impairment.
Description of the membership of the organization, indicating the total number of members: Our members consists of universities, research centres, individual researchers, and community-based partners across Canada. There are a total of 37 universities and research centres involved. We have approximately 200 researchers. Finally, we have 220 community-based partners.
