The ACT Alliance was formed on 1 January 2010, bringing together ACT International, established in 1995, and ACT Development, in existence since 2007. Members of the ACT Alliance have a combined staff including volunteers of over 30,000 people, of which some 16,000 are paid. The combined total annual income of ACT Alliance members exceeded US$ 1.6 billion for the financial year 2008/2009, with about half of all ACT expenditures devoted to long-term development and about one-quarter to humanitarian assistance. The ACT Alliance holds a General Assembly every four years. The Governing Board is responsible for the governance of the Alliance between General Assemblies. It meets annually, has global representation, and includes permanent representatives from the World Council of Churches (WCC) and the Lutheran World Federation (LWF). The Commission of the Churches on International Affairs of the WCC has general consultative status with ECOSOC since 2000 while LWF has special status since 1952. |
