Mission statement:	Vision: We envision Nigeria as a society of equitable and sustainable development, created by a culture of peace and democracy. Mission: The Centre exists to develop the human capacity for change. In cooperation with like-minded organizations, it seeks to transform situations of conflict by training and engaging youths, teachers, and community leaders on peaceful conflict management, democracy, and good governance, believing that only by creating a culture of peace and democratically-minded individuals can the community fully realize the potential of its physical and human resources for development. Core Values: CHDST aims to conduct all of its operations in accordance with its guiding values which steer its activities, programs, and operations: Justice, Fairness, Honesty Integrity, Transparency, Peace, and Democracy. Objectives (a) Train stakeholders in social transformation (peace building, environment, democracy, etc) and human development (b) Promote an awareness and interest in the common good by teaching responsible leadership. (c) Provide training on peace education (peace building and conflict transformation) (d) Train and empower students as well as other stakeholders to make democratic decisions for themselves, such as electing their own leaders. (e) Build Capacity of communities on democracy, development & peace building (f) Provide training on various aspects that will enhance development in the community. (g) Use the media as a tool for development and enhancing public participation. (h) Publish various publications on peace education, democracy, good governance and environment to be adopted for use in the country. (i) Create awareness on a democratic and a culture of peace among youths and other stakeholders. (j) Hold training sessions for youths and other stakeholders to imbibe leadership and a culture of peace. (k) Research into conflict and peace building. (l) Collaborate with other organisations to achieve our objectives. (m) Organise events in the area of human development & Social Transformation. Methodology The centre organises various research and training for various stakeholders in areas of human development & social transformation. The training is through the participatory approach of learning. This method ensures high participation, places the stakeholders as actors and not spectators in events around them. It goes against the conventional principle that ordinary people have no power to change their situation. It widens the horizon of the participants by giving them tools of analysis. The centre will provides a space for constant reflection and to recognize the contradiction between views from their own experience and views based on dominant culture.
Year established:	2005
Organizational structure:	The Centre for Human Development and Social Transformation was formed in August 2005 to coordinate the ‘protect our future project’. The aim is to coordinate and support a programme of social transformation in Nigeria. The pilot scheme of the programme is currently running in the Niger Delta. The centre organises constant training for stakeholders on various aspects of human development & social transformation, this include: conflict resolution, peace education, democracy, environmental and human rights. Organisational Status: The organisation was registered in 2005 with the Rivers State Government as an NGO involved in Development and Social Work. The registration Number is MYEE/YD/20/5175. Thereafter it applied to the Corporate Affairs Commission and was registered as a Not for Profit organisation limited by guarantee in July 2008. The name was subsequently changed from The Centre for Human Development and Social Transformation to The Centre for Social Transformation and Human Development. The registration number is: Rc 759470.
