Yes. Currently, due to its history and attributions, the Brazilian Bar has a spot on important organs that defend human rights in Brazil, as the National Council for the Rights of the Child and Adolescent – CONANDA, the National Council for Persons with Disabilities – CONADE, the Council for Defense of the Rights of the Human Person – CDDPH CONANDA is set forth in Law n. 8069 of July 13, 1990 – Child and Adolescent Statute as one of the service policy guidelines. It withholds representativity in the democratic sphere to guide and institutionalize the new paradigm of Complete Protection for the Child and Adolescent. In this manner, its greater purpose is to determine and control the policy of promoting and defending the rights of the child and adolescent at a federal level. CONADE is the superior body of collegiate decision, created by Provisional Measure n. 1799-6/1999, within the scope of the Ministry of Justice. In May 2003, the Council became linked to the Special Secretariat for Human Rights. CONADE’s main competence is to follow up and assess the development of the National Policy for the Integration of Persons with Disabilities and the sectoral policies on education, health, work, social assistance, transportation, culture, tourism, sports, and urban policy aimed at this social group CDDPH is a collegiate organ, created by law n. 4319, from March 16th, 1964 and has as main attribution to receive reports and to investigate, along with local authorities, violations to human rights with special importance and national dissemination, such as slaughters, exterminations, murders of people linked to defense of human rights, massacres, abuse by police operations, etc. Also, CDDPH promotes studies to improve defense and promotion of human rights and give information to international organizations of defense of human rights. |
