Social Development

Affiliation with other organizations: The Fishermen is constantly seeking to develop connections with entities conducting missions in countries in which we are engaged. We are currently assisting and/or working with the Children of Tien-Shan, Counterpart International, the IOM, Mine Action Coordination Committee of Afghanistan, MONUSCO, Samaritan's Purse, Tabish Social Services, UNHCR, UNICEF, the UNPO, and Upright Africa, as well as the US Department of State and ISAF, all of whom - in part - share an interest in the progression of the well being of orphaned children.

A copy of this publication will be posted on this site for ECOSOC examination. Additionally, we have produced the "Danger Book" which addresses terrorism-awareness for North American children, "Combatants of North and South Kivu: an NGO's Guide to the DR Congo," the "ACT" guide to identifying signs of physical and sexual abuse, and the "Hurt Book" medical guide for street/abandoned children - all of which will be available both here and on our website.
Statements or documents submitted
to the UN Forum on Indigenous Issues:
The Fishermen is currently developing an informal working relationship with the UNPO, with whom we will coordinate in the preparation of statistical reports on orphanages and child-orphan issues of the indigenous people represented by their organization. Our first report will be released in May on the northern Pakistani region of Gilgit-Baltistan.
Purpose of the organization: In relation to the goals of The Fishermen, the purpose of creating cooperative friendships with other organizations within the framework of social development is to promote a more stable environment for orphaned and abandoned children, protect economically and socially disadvantaged children - especially those of indigenous people - by providing better representation regarding their medical needs, and an overall improvement of access to education. It is important to note that there is no formal organization shared with other entities in regard to the realization of the goals of The Fishermen - our friendships with Counterpart International, the IOM, Samaritan's Purse, UNHCR, UNICEF, and the UNPO are purely advantageous and no agreement to accomplish a singular vision exists.
