Lagos State Ministry of Education Address In addition, we are partnering with UNIFEM on SAY NO - UNITE to end violence against women
Purpose of the organization: The aim of Freedom Foundation is to enhance social development by improving the lives of underpriviledged and vulnerable men, women and children. In order to achieve this prurpose, Freedom Foundation developed a number programs whose activities are centred on awareness promotion, education, rehabilitation, empowerment and research. Our key activities include; 1. Organising outreach programs and awareness promotion campaigns on issues that affect vulnerable men, women and children such as HIV, substance abuse and sexual abuse/exploitation and human trafficking. 2. Providing education for orphans and vulnerable children, school-aged girls in sex trade and victims of child trafficking. 3. Providing treatment, rehabilitation and referral services for drug-dependent persons, 4. Providing rehabilitation services for young female sex workers, victims of human trafficking and victims of sexual, physical and emotional abuse. 5. Providing training, career counselling, recruitment services and business support for unemployed youth. 6. Conducting researches aimed at determining the needs of the population we work with, determining the effectiveness and impact of our programs and providing information needed for improving service delivery.
Confirmation of the activities of the organization at the regional, national or international level: 1. Freedom Foundation presented a film documentary on their work with Injecting Drug Users in Lagos State at the National Conference on Injecting Drug Use held in Newcastle, United Kingdom on October 7&8 2010. The film abstract titled, "Injecting Risks and practices among IDUs in Lagos, Nigeria: A critical analysis in planning sustainable Harm Reduction interventions" is the result of recent outreaches and interventions to injecting drug user communities in Lagos State, Nigeria. Freedom Foundation participated in the World Drug Day program on June 30, 2010 hosted by Lagos State Government and implemented by the Lagos State Interministerial Drug Control Committee. Freedom Foundation showed a film documentary on an ex Drug User {now Peer Educator} who went through Freedom Foundation's rehabilitation program after being identified at a community outreach in Lagos. 3. Regular Community based outreaches to drug users/female sex workers in target communities in Lagos State. Mass Outreaches are held periodically at the National Stadium in collaboration with partners such as Africare International, Hope World Wide Nigeria,Planned Parenthood Federation of Nigeria and Population Council. 4. Participation in the piloting of the Peer Educator training manual for Drug Users in Nigeria. 3 of Freedom Foundation Peer Educators {2 ex drug users rehabilitated under our program and the HIV Support Group Coordinator participated} 5. Freedom Foundation participated in the Central Working Group for an ENR Research Protocol titled: Determinants of Risk Taking Behavior amongst most at risk population (MARPs). 6. Freedom Foundation also participated in the harmonization meetings for the MSM/IDU Peer Education Plus Manual. 7. Freedom Foundation Mobile Medical Van was used to facilitate the ACASI study that took place in Shitta community in Lagos State. 8. Education, Re education, HCT, Care, Support and Rehabilitation services for 15 female IDU/NIDU from August 2009 till date. 9. Education, Re education, HCT, Care, Support and Rehabilitation services for 54 male NIDU/IDUs at the House of Refuge {Drug Rehabilitation /Resource Centre} from 2007 till date. 10. Education, Re education, HCT, Care, Support and Rehabilitation services for 75 victims of sexual exploitation and abuse (including female sex workers at Genesis House {Female Social/Vocational Rehabilitation} from 2007 till date. 11. Freedom Foundation has also conducted a large number of community outreaches in identified areas of Lagos State, where our key target populations are known to be concentrated. The regular community outreach exercises also include community dialogues, rallies, awareness campaigns and education, where the area boys, IDUs, NIDUs and female sex workers are recruited, assessed and if they are willing and assessed as appropriate for our programs, they are subsequently placed within the programs, as appropriate. Currently, Freedom Foundation's community outreach spans vast areas of Lagos Island and mainland, such as Ijora, Tin-Can Island, Marine Bridge, Mushin, Fadeyi, Empire etc. We have drawn numerous clients from these areas, many of whom remain on our programs till date.
