If yes, explain in detail: The Federation of Women Groups partnered with United Nations Development Funds for Women (UNIFEM)to implement the GGP II (Gender and Governance Programme II) through training and capacity building of women leaders and candidates for the 2007 General Elections. The objectives of FWG in this programme were:To support constitutional, legal, policy and institutional reforms for gender equality, non discrimination and the equal participation of women in all governance structures. To increase options, choices and capacities for Kenyan women in order to enhance women’s organizing, leadership, influencing and participation for gender equality, human rights, and democratic governance. To strengthen positive images of women in leadership within communities The Organization partnered with the MINISTRY OF PLANNING (GOK), GOVERNMENT OF FINLAND and UNDP in implementation of the Localization of the Millennium Development Goals (MDG’s) in Kisii District, Nyanza Province, Kenya. The Federation of Women Groups partnered with COLLABORATIVE CENTER FOR GENDER & DEVELOPMENT (CCGD) in the GGP I (Gender & Governance Programme I) in 2005.
Affiliation with other organizations: The Organization in collaboration with URAIA Kenya to do Civic Education Programmes in the Nyanza province. The Organization affiliated with FEMINANZA to do peace and reconciliation project in Nakuru

Social Development

Affiliation with other organizations: The Organization partnered with USAID and PATH Kenya to lobby and campaign against Female Genital Mutilation and other injustices against women and girls in the Abagusii and Abakuria communities in Nyanza province. Other injustices against women and girls that FWG found itself fighting against included early marriages, sexual and gender based violence, wife inheritance and reproductive health issues in the two communities.
Purpose of the organization: The aims of the Federation of Women Groups is to be the leading organization in the region that supports women’s rights to realize their full potential and contributions to the society without prejudice. The Organization empowers women participate in decision making, poverty alleviation and advocate for their rights. It also promotes a democratic society in which women enjoy their rights by eradication of customs, cultures and traditions which undermine their participation in the political, social and economic sphere hence becoming an agent of positive change, and pillars of development. Other purposes includes mobilizing women, the youth and self-help groups for development, promote women’s rights and women’s property inheritance rights awareness, eliminate all forms of discriminative practices against girls and women, empower women, the youth and self-help groups economically, socially and politically,conserve the environment and support sustainable utilization of natural resources.

A list of members of the governing body of the organization, and their countries of nationality: FWG is governed by its Members through a Board of Members that comprises of a Chairperson, Elected Board Members, Executive Director (Ex officio Member), Programmes Coordinator, Programmes Officers, Office Assistant, Field/Branch Officers and Volunteers. The Board is responsible for formulating and providing direction for the benefit of the organization. The Chairperson is responsible for the overall management of the organization, and provision of strategic leadership, coordination and implementation of activities to meet FWG’s objectives. FWG has its head office in Nairobi that also coordinates its activities in Nairobi, Kiambu, Marsabit, and Kitale branches. It has field offices in Nyamira and Kisii Town that coordinate its activities in Kisumu, Siaya, Nyamira, Kisii, Migori (Kuria), Homa Bay and Bomet branches.
Description of the membership of the organization, indicating the total number of members: Federation of Women Groups (FWG) was conceptualized in 1995 and founded 1997 by likeminded women who saw a need to fight injustices against women in the Gusii community of Nyanza Province in Kenya. This community among others, practice female genital mutilation (FGM) among other injustices. Federation of Women Groups (FWG) is a national Non Governmental Organization (NGO) formed out of a coalition of two hundred and fifty (250) women self help groups. It was registered with the NGO Coordination Board in 1999 as a regional NGO operating in Nyamira Distric
