Purpose of the organization: 1. To provide a means of communication between medical women in different parts of the country. 2. To promote the general interest of medical women in different parts of the country and foster friendship and understanding among them. 3. To provide opportunities for medical women to confer at regular intervals, discuss the health problems of the communities they serve and take collective action to alleviate the health problems and promote the well being of the various communities. 4. To provide fora for discussions and inter change of ideas with government, the public and international organizations on social and political problems that directly or indirectly affect the health of women and children in this country.
Description of the membership of the organization, indicating the total number of members: MEMBERSHIP 1. Full Membership: Medical and Dental Women qualified and registered according to the accepted national standard of the medical profession in Nigeria. 2. Associate Membership: Females in medical and dental institutions in Nigeria. Such members shall not be eligible to vote or be voted for. 3. Honorary Membership: May be granted to any non-medically qualified woman who has rendered to the medical profession, such service as to merit this recognition upon recommendation of a half majority of the National Executive Council (NEC) and approval by a half majority of members present at one of the general meetings. Such members shall not be eligible to vote or be voted for. The Grand patron is automatically the incumbent First Lady of the Federation and may play the role of hostess. Patrons and matrons can be appointed at State levels based on the level of contributions and commitment to the Association as perceived by them. Total number now about 800 members
