groundWork has been working with the UNEP Global Mercury Project (GMP) since 2004. We are active members of the various partnerships established under the GMP.
groundWork also actively participate in the COP's of the various chemicals MEA's including the Stockholm Convention, the Rotterdam Convention and the Basel Convention. |
Affiliation with other organizations: |
groundWork are the South African members of Friends of the Earth, the world's largest grassroots environmental network uniting 76 national member groups and some 5,000 local activist groups on every continent.
We play a leading role in The Zero Mercury Working Group (ZMWG) - an international coalition of more than 93 public interest environmental and health non-governmental organizations from 45 countries from around the world on the negotiation and implementation of a global mercury treaty - this process is currently at the INC phase.
We are also active members of the following global organisations:
• The Global Alliance for Incinerator
Alternatives;
• IPEN, the International Persistent Organic
Pollutant Elimination Network;
• The Basel Action Network;
• Health Care Without Harm; and
• Oilwatch International. |
