Purpose of the organization: The Resources for Development Center (RDC) is an independent think-tank and consultancy organization dedicated to the advancement of sustainable human development in Egypt and the Arab region through the promotion of Democracy, Good governance and the Rule of Law. With an overarching concern for women, youth and disadvantaged groups, RDC seeks to address developmental challenges by targeting three overlapping sectors: Promotion & Protection of Human Rights; Civic & Political Participation; and Accountability & Transparency.
Activities relevant to the conference of States Parties to the convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities: 1. BootCamp - Award number:S-NEATU-11-GR-055 Providing 25 Egyptian civil society organizations with technical assistance and intensive trainings as regards the programmatic, managerial and financial aspects of project management. The project has witnessed the launch of the first Arabic language e-learning portal for civil society organizations and activists seeking to develop their capacities and expand their repertoire with new tools for activism and development programming: www.csoacademy.org Founded by MEPI. 2. Reform 2.O” or Using New Media Tools in Advocating for Political, Economic, and Social Reform. The project aims at enabling the new generation of activists affiliated to pro-democracy NGOs, political parties and socioeconomic movements to use Internet in building constituency, civic participation, political membership, voting, advocacy, and keeping government accountable, transparent and responsive. Founded by Foundation for the Future. 3. Training Program for Handicapped People to enhance effective participation. The program goal is to promote a major inclusion of handicapped people in public life and to build on their capacity to effectively speak up and defend their rights. RDC will train 32 leaders representative, with different kind of disabilities, of the handicapped communities. Courses include communication, presentation skills, leadership, team work, political education, political participation, and human and handicapped rights trainings. Funded by CEOSS, Coptic Evangelical Organization for Social Services 4. In the Framework of the Nurturing Tolerance and Democracy project - which aims to promote inter-faith understanding and cooperation in areas that have suffered from religious strife in the recent past - RDC as a partner was in charge of preparing and designing 2 training manuals about tolerance and democratic values. Manuals are meant to be used to train different targets on international religious freedom, to promote tolerance and integration and to engage in activities which strengthen cross-faith relations. Funded by Tanweer Center for Development and Human Rights and USAID/Egypt. 5. Youth Take Actions towards Governance and Elections. The project, led by the General Association for Youth Development (GAYD), aims at enhancing justice and citizens' participation in elections and public policy-making.RDC’s role is to provide trainings and create an online avenue for youth civic engagement. 6. Social Contract Center. Program implemented by the Social Contract Center (SCC), affiliated to the semi-governmental Information and Decision Support Center (DISC), RDC’s role is to provide capacity-building trainings on Social Project Planning and Management. 7. CB2/GEF. Program carried out by the United Nations Development program (UNDP) in cooperation with the Egyptian Environmental Affairs Agency (EEAA) and aiming at mainstreaming global environmental issues in national plans and policies.RDC’s role is to provide technical assistance and trainings to establish and run a special unit for international affairs within the Desert Research Center affiliated to the Ministry of Agriculture. 8. Improving Early Education for Children. RDC assisted the Key of Life Association by providing training and capacity building for 42 grassroots community development organizations in Qena Governorate. Financed by CIDA. 9. Empowering Women in Parliament. RDC provided the Egyptian Association for Disseminating and Developing Legal Awareness with technical assistance and educational materials to empower women in legislative bodies. 10. Women Pioneers in Political Participation. RDC provided the Catholic Relief Services Cairo Office with technical assistance. RDC's role was to develop training and educational materials and conduct 8 training programs for 240 women candidates and candidates' staff to be prepared for the April 2008 local elections in Egypt.
