Currently the secretariat of GMF is launching a campaign to collect articles from global mayors, experts and business leaders. The articles’ topic are relevant to the Rio+20 Summit, such as sustainable urban development, poverty eradication, green economy, food and energy security, climate change adaptation and so on. The articles will be presented to the Rio+20 Summit as a collective contribution.
On 19 November 2011, the council of GMF together with the Chinese Society for Sustainable Development jointly hosted a Six-Party Forum – “Road to Rio+20”. The theme of the forum was “Developing a green economy and leading a low-carbon life”. Secretary General of the UNCSD Mr. Sha Zukang took part in the forum and communicated face-to-face with other Chinese and foreign participants. As Mr. Sha commented, this forum helped facilitate the preparations and consensus building towards Rio.
In 2008, the secretariat of GMF organized a partnership conference for the UN’s 4th World Urban Forum. The theme of the conference was “Comparative Case Studies between Canada and China”.
In 2005, the secretariat of GMF organized a Chinese delegation (composed of governors, enterprise leaders and artists) to attend the UN’s 60th anniversary. Secretary General Ms. Jin Lan was awarded “Ambassador of World Peace and Culture” by UN.

The council of GMF composes of six international organization, namely, International Mayor Communication Centre (IMCC), World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD), International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives (ICLEI), Sustainable Cities International (SCI), CITYNET and Cityscape.
The endorsing organizations of GMF are including UN-HABITAT, UNEP, UNDP, the Chinese People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, etc.
GMF has built up friendly connections with a number of international organizations such as United Cities and Local Governments, International Downtown Association, Eurocities, the United States Conference of Mayors, National League of Cities and so on. |
