We are at present working closely with the Consortium of African Funds for the Environment (CAFÉ), group created in 2011, made up of 16 continental funds, seeking to support them in learning how to cooperate as a network seeking to invest strategically in their region in sustainable development (more information visit http://redlac.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=341%3Aredlac-supports-the-creation-of-cafe&catid=59%3Anews-redlac&Itemid=237&lang=en).
RedLAC is a member of the Conservation Finance Alliance (CFA), which was established in February 2002 to encourage and enhance collaboration among institutions and organizations involved in the sustainable financing of biodiversity conservation.
Two important projects the RedLAC is implementing are: the Ecofunds Database and the RedLAC Capacity Building Project for Enviromental Funds. The Ecofunds Database relies on the collaboration of ten member Environmental Funds and was initially financed by the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation through a USD 618,500.00 grant. Its’ objective is to organize the information on conservation investments in the Andes-Amazon region and make them available through an online portal, which is accessible to the general public at www.redlac.org/ecofunds. The online system is still being adjusted and will be an effective tool for the funds to really use and monitor their portfolios and to provide transparency and visibility to their investments. On its second phase, currently under implementation, Ecofunds received the support of other international foundations, including Avina and Skoll, in an amount of about USD 100,000, for its maintenance and communication.
The RedLAC Capacity Building Project for Environmental Funds aims at strengthening funds in their operations and in the use of innovative financial mechanisms that reduce their dependency from international donations. This is achieved through ten thematic capacity building workshops in Latin America and Africa open to Environmental Funds around the globe and through a call for proposals restricted to RedLAC members for innovative financial mechanisms pilot-projects. The project is supported by the Gordon and Betty Moore Foundation and the French Fund for the Global Environment (FFEM) through grant agreements in a total of about USD 2 million. |
