Involvement in UN Partnerships: Yes
If yes, explain in detail: Project Title : Measuring the economic contribution of Zimbabwe’s cultural industries Brief Description The baseline survey,(2009) concluded that data and information on the culture sector is poorly documented due to lack of a centralised information and knowledge management system. To address the gap the Culture Fund has partnered with Zimbabwe Statistics Office (Zimstats) for a project that will initiate a process for the identification, collation and dissemination of statistical data on the contribution of the cultural industries to the economy of Zimbabwe. The UNESCO framework for cultural statistics (FCS) (2009) will be applied for the measurement of the economic impact of culture. The tool is based on a conceptual foundation and a common understanding of culture that will enable the measurement of a wide range of cultural expressions irrespective of the particular economic and social mode of its production. The framework is built upon the concept of a culture cycle model of the culture sector which helps to bring understanding of the relationships between the different cultural processes from creation, production, to dissemination, exhibition and consumption. The pragmatic definition of culture used in FCS is based on the representation of culture by domains for which the purpose is to measure cultural activities, goods and services that are generated by industrial and non-industrial processes as follows: A. Cultural and Natural heritage B. Performance and Celebration C. Visual Arts and Crafts D. Books and Press E. Audio-visual and Interactive Media F. Design and Creative Services Intangible Cultural Heritage This research will avail statistical data on the contributions of the cultural industries to the economy, bring culture sector development through informed government and investor interventions as well as inform future culture sector and national policy frameworks.
