Sustainable Development

Major group affiliation:
  • Women
  • Non-governmental organization
Affiliation with other organizations: Through the access to water and women empowerment "Women for Water" project, AAD has partnered with the Association Aquassistance, which gathers employees from major french utility group Suez-Environnement, volunteering to lead humanitarian activities in Africa. Aquassistance has conducted an expertise study in the Mawacha village of DRC, that enabled AAD to provide water access to the community, along environmental criteria. Three wells have been dug since 2009 that are managed by an association of women, providing them with increased clout among their community.

Social Development

Affiliation with other organizations: Through the social development program "Refugees on the Move", AAD partners with UNHCR bureaus in 10 African countries to organize dance workshops in refugee camps with the aim of restoring joy and hope to the refugees, reducing violence within the camps and increasing dialogue between communities. The "Refugees on the move" program began in Chad in November 2011 and will move on to Congo, Burundi and the Central African Republic in 2012. 6 others African countries are scheduled to host the project in 2013 and 2014. Through the HIV/AIDS prevention project "Bukavu Bubbles", AAD has worked closely with the French association Solidarité Sida and their Congolese counterpart in Bukavu, SOS-Sida, on the publishing of a comic-book (entitled "Les diamants de Kamituga") that includes prevention messages, handing out 100 000 copies for free in the Sud-Kivu province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. As a member of the Clinton Global Initiative (CGI) since 2010, AAD has formulated two Commitments to contribute to the CGI goal of "forging solutions to the world's most pressing challenges". AAD will launch in June 2012 a new social and educative project entitled "Benin's Beautiful Libraries" in strong collaboration with the Zinsou Foundation from Benin, that consists of the establishment of children and youth libraries in several deprived neighborhoods of Cotonou. In line with its activities with the Global Leadership Foundation, AAD will launch in July 2012 a new project entitled "Township Orchestra" in Cape Town's townships (South Africa), that will aim at providing music education to townships classes.
Publications: "Les Diamants de Kamituga", January 2011, 110 000 copies. AAD is currently working on a second comic book that includes HIV/AIDS prevention messages to be handed out for free in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).
