Affiliation with other organizations: IANSA;Action On Armed Violence; Ibis;Sierra Leone National Commission on Small Arms; ECOWAS/Small Arms Unit
Purpose of the organization: We envisage a society where the citizens live at peace with each other and take responsibility for the welfare of one another, respect the rights of individuals and the rule of law to achieve security, safety and development.
Activities relevant to the conference of States Parties to the convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities: SLANSA has been in existence since 2001 and operates in all four geo-political regions in Sierra Leone given that its membership cuts across the country. However, in terms of comparative advantage, the Network is strongest in the Western Area, Bo, Kenema, Kambia, Kailahun, Bombali, (Pujehun) and Kono. SLANSA is a recognised and approved civil society partner to the Sierra Leone National Commission on Small Arms control (SLeNCSA). ACTIVITIES • Policy and legislative advocacy on Small Arms and security. • Democracy, disarmament and development • Public education/awareness creation on security with emphasis on Municipal/District/Local Councils • Conduct trainings, workshops and seminars with members of the Defence and Security Committees in Parliament • Work with the media to raise public awareness on security and how such could impact on development • Peace building through youth involvement in community activities and governance. • Cross Border Community mobilisation and capacity building (CSOs and CBOs) • Armed Violence Reduction and Prevention – Geneva Declaration • Consultations with community leadership for peace building. • Campaigns – Violence Free Elections (Ballots Not Bullets); Disarming Domestic Violence; Arms Trade Treaty; • Evidence Based Research.
Confirmation of the activities of the organization at the regional, national or international level: We work with ECOWAS AND WAANSA at the regional level and with IANSA and the UN at the global level.

Description of the membership of the organization, indicating the total number of members: • The Network comprises local, secular and religious organizations of church and para church groups, women’s groups, youth groups and government institutions. • Locally we operate in partnership with the Sierra Leone National Commission on Small Arms (SLeNCSA), Office of National Security, IBIS Sierra Leone, Conciliation Resources, Action Aid Sierra Leone ; United Nations Development Programme/Arms for Development. • Regionally and internationally, ECOWAS Small Arms Programme (ECOSAP), West African Action Network on Small Arms (WAANSA), International Action Network on Small Arms (IANSA)., Coalition on Cluster Munitions (CMC); Foundation for Security and Development in Africa (FOSDA); IBIS-West Africa both in Accra, Ghana.
