Major group affiliation:
  • Scientific and technological communities
Involvement in UN Partnerships: Yes
If yes, explain in detail: EAT partners with a number of UN agencies and programs, mostly through events and initiatives. At IFAD's 42nd Governing Council on February 14 - 15, 2019, EAT partnered with IFAD to host a presentation of the report from the EAT-Lancet Commission and serve a lunch to all participants based on the recommendations from the report. At the 24th Conference of the Parties to the UNFCCC, in Katowice, Poland, EAT and the UN Climate Change secretariat’s Momentum for Change initiative, jointly organised a side event on December 12, aiming to raise awareness of the role of food systems in addressing both climate change and the sustainable development goals. EAT is currently in the process of entering into a partnership with UN Global Compact to provide improved awareness, opportunities and participation of their respective global activities to the benefit of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the achievement of the SDGs, focusing on translating the report from the EAT-Lancet Commission to business action, and advancing responsible business practices. EAT is also in dialogue with UNICEF regarding an initiative called Children Eating Well (CHEW), that focuses on the linkages between food systems and child health and nutrition. The collaboration was initiated at a meeting at the Rockefeller Foundation Bellagio Centre in 2017 and has directed attention to this agenda at several high-level events, such as the EAT Asia-Pacific Food Forum in 2017 and the World Urban Forum (WUF) in Kuala Lumpur in 2018. Director-level representatives from the FAO and WHO also served as Commissioners for the report of the EAT-Lancet Commission on Food, Planet, Health.
