Social Development

Purpose of the organization: Pop Culture Hero Coalition works to educate and support children and teens through teaching mental health, Social Emotional Learning (SEL) and the prevention of fascism, bigotry, and bullying in all its forms, including: • Racism • Misogyny • LGBTQI+bullying • Cyberbullying • Discrimination • Inequality The Coalition’s work is for the purpose of creating and supporting: • Mental health, which leads to the physical, emotional, and psychological safety for children, teens, women, LGBTQI-people, and people of all backgrounds, socio-economic status, genders, races, and religious affiliations. • Lifelong social, emotional, and communication skills, which are crucial for peaceful conflict resolution • Healthy identity • Positive peer relationships • Academic achievement   Created by a team of renowned psychologists and award-winning educators, our innovative, comprehensive, 32-lesson plan Heroic Journey Curriculum uses stories and characters from pop culture, which children and teens find relatable and accessible, to transform their struggles into strengths. Since 2013, we have implemented programs in pop culture conventions, featuring guests from the United Nations, including UNDP Team Leader Charles Chauvel and United Nations Association President Bettina Hausmann. This work ignites passion in young people for the work of the United Nations and the SDGs.   In 2019, we created and distributed our original mental health comic book for children’s hospitals, helping children with cancer and other serious illness navigate anxiety, depression, loneliness, and fear. Our newly-created Heroic Journey at Home is currently available free of charge on our website for children, teens, and parents in isolation during COVID-19. It is available in English, Spanish, German, and Italian.

Advancement of Women
